TRUMP'S 'FIGHT THE MAN' FUND STALLS: GOP ALLIES DEMAND HE SCRAP 'PETTY' REVENGE SCHEME

Well, butter our biscuits and call us surprised. According to reports, even the most steadfast loyalists in the GOP are begging former President Trump to deep-six his proposed $1.8 billion fund designed to combat the 'weaponization of justice.' It seems the original idea, which sounded suspiciously like a war chest for prosecuting political enemies, is raising an eyebrow or two, even among those who typically nod along vigorously.

One might think that a former leader, always keen on portraying himself as a victim, would jump at the chance to create an official-sounding mechanism for... well, for getting even. But alas, the fund, which we can only assume would have purchased an awful lot of Goya beans to throw at perceived persecutors, is apparently too on-the-nose even for Washington's current intellectual climate. We imagine the meeting where this was discussed, perhaps with a whiteboard full of crayon drawings of Lady Justice wearing a blindfold marked 'DO NOT REMOVE.'

Critics, even those within Trump's own party, are reportedly recoiling from the sheer audacity of a taxpayer-funded revenge initiative. Perhaps they fear it sets a rather uncouth precedent. Or, more likely, they've finally realized that trying to institutionalize score-settling with a nine-figure budget sounds less like strategic governance and more like a villain's monologue from a Saturday morning cartoon. It's almost as if the grown-ups (or at least, the slightly less cartoonish grown-ups) in the room have arrived, looked at the proposed budget line, and declared, 'Donald, honey, no.'

One has to wonder what KEYT NewsChannel 3-12 will make of this developing story. Will they ponder the philosophical implications of weaponizing justice? Or just find another compelling photo of a bewildered squirrel? We're betting on the squirrel. In any case, it appears that even in the cutthroat world of D.C., some ideas are just too deliciously vindictive to ever see the light of day. Our loss, we suppose.
