Jean Carroll's legal entanglements against Donald Trump, is now clutching his pearls over – gasp! – a Justice Department inquiry into his nonprofit's fun money. According to KEYT NewsChannel 3-12 (God bless 'em for broadcasting the obvious), Hoffman believes this probe is just a nefarious plot to 'silence' Trump's critics. One must admire the chutzpah; it takes a special kind of wealthy elitist to fund a legal assault on a former president and then cry 'victim' when someone dares to look under the hood of his charitable giving.

It seems the rules of engagement only apply one way in the rarefied air of Silicon Valley's political puppeteers. When you're funneling millions into politically charged litigation, that's just good, clean, democratic fun. But when the DOJ, or anyone, asks for a peek at the books, suddenly it's an authoritarian crackdown straight out of a dystopian novel. One wonders if Hoffman's definition of 'silencing' includes simply making it inconvenient for him to anonymously funnel cash into politically beneficial legal battles.

Perhaps Mr. Hoffman genuinely believes his nonprofit is a sacred, untouchable entity, a bastion of pure intent immune to scrutiny. Or, more likely, he's just another deep-pocketed ideologue who hates it when the peasants start asking questions about the man behind the curtain. The irony, of course, is thicker than a billion-dollar bank account. For years, the left has championed transparency in campaign finance and lamented 'dark money' influence, but when it's *their* dark money, suddenly it's a principled stand for free speech.
