Goleta Politics
The Good Land — Old Town, tech jobs, UCSB spillover, and pension math.
Goleta, the 'Good Land,' is a relatively young city on the South Coast next to UCSB, blending Old Town small businesses, an aerospace and tech employment base, and ongoing growth fights. Incorporated in 2002, it has spent its short life debating zoning, pensions, and how much to build.
Its City Council juggles housing pressure from the university, infrastructure like the long-running sewer and roads questions, and preserving neighborhood character.
Governance
City Council (district-based) oversees Goleta's budget, planning, and services. The Goleta West Sanitary District and school districts also serve residents.
Elections
City Council elected by district in nonpartisan races on four-year staggered terms.
